I've been very, very bad at keeping my blog even close to up-to-date. Things have just been insanely crazy since the beginning of November. Between school, taking care of Nana, and trying to get active I have little to no time for keeping up my blog. So, here's a list of some of the things that have been keeping me so busy:
1. At least 4 times each week I hit the gym for an hour or more. This week has been an exception (meetings everyday have kept me at school until about 5, and after a 10 hour day at OTHS I'm spent). I do 30 minutes of cardio and then some weight machines. No real pounds lost, but I feel better than I have in a long time. I have more energy - which I clearly need - and I just FEEL better. When I don't/can't make it I feel bad.
2. My school has decided to let me open a student-staffed writing center. I'm working with our literacy coach, Melanie, and a friend/Mel's intern, Matt, to plan and get the center off the ground. I'm pumped.
3. Our English curriculum needs to be redone. We're not meeting AYP, and we're so focused on content in the curriculum that we aren't teaching skills. January 6 is a whole day when Melanie, another English teacher, Megan, and myself will sit down to write the Freshman curriculum.
4. I've applied to Graduate school at UMaine Orono. I'm taking my Miller Analogies Test tomorrow morning, and then waiting to hear whether or not I get in. Fingers crossed. If all goes well, I'll be working toward a Master of Ed in Literacy.
5. Preparing for Christmas is crazy. I do all of my own shopping, plus the shopping for my Nana. I spent a weekend in North Conway just after Thanksgiving (with my cousin, Amber). In one day I got ALMOST all of my shopping done. I needed a few small things when I got home, but mostly North Conway saved me a lot of Christmas crowds. The Christmas tree came a week later, and now the house is ready. Getting the tree was an ... adventure. I tripped over about 30 tree stumps and my ankle is still sore.
Looking at that list makes me feel a little bad. Only 4 things have kept me running from 6am until 9pm everyday. Oye. As busy as I've been, it's good. I'm enjoying the possibilities that all of the work creates. There's a lot I can do, and some of it has begun to become clear in my mind.
