Vacation - Part 3

This is it, I promise. Who want's Al now? He's ready for some relaxing after our big trip.

Day 7 - Sunday, August 2, 2009
9am was sleeping in for us, but still came too early. We had to pack up our suitcases, check out, and get to Times Square once more. This was the last day to see any shows, because most of the theaters are dark on Mondays. We had our eyes set on a little Tony-Award Winner called Next to Normal.

We waiting in a line about a block long for over an hour, but in the end it paid off. We wound up with BOX SEATS! We couldn't believe it, but Al was pretty excited ... look at that smile.

When we left the box office, it was pouring and we needed to walk 3 blocks. We considered waiting out the rain, but decided to just get wet. And, boy did we. Standing on the corner of 7th and 41st a car went by and splashed us with a huge puddle. We made it to the hotel, but looked like we had been thrown into a lake. Luckily, our room was ready early. We spent the afternoon drying off, and recording our trip in my travel journal. We also got dolled up for our last night in the city.

At 5ish, we headed out - in the sunshine - and went to Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. for dinner. Al was, again, excited to be somewhere with no pork on the menu. He also enjoyed a LA Blue Lemonade (he likes vodka).

After dinner, we had to brave the tourist trap shops in order to bring home some gifts for family. The highlight of this walk was a run in with the Naked Cowboy (and a man who seems to aspire to the be the next Naked Cowboy).

After our walk, we went to our last show. It was so AMAZING! Even Al was brought to tears by the story. Next to Normal = love. We went outside afterward and met four of the six cast members. The two ladies in the show were ill and snuck out a different door. However, these guys were so gracious, funny, and kind. It was worth being shoved.

This night was so amazing. I mean it. That show just ... ugh. Amazing.

Day 8 - Monday, August 3, 2009
Our last day in the city began with sleeping in. We probably could have slept all day, but Al and I had a plane to catch at 9pm, and it would have been a shame to be in the Big Apple and not take him to the trees in Central Park. So, we did. We packed up our things, checked out, left our bags with the bell hop, and headed uptown again.

Al certainly enjoyed Central Park. While I was in a picture, he located some nice Holly bushes and made himself comfortable.

After strolling around the park, with extremely tired legs, we went to FAO Schwartz, the Apple Store, and Tiffany. At FAO Schwartz, Al was really scared by this guy, so we couldn't stay long.
Lunch was at Serendipity 3 on Monday, and Al got angry with me. I had a BLT :( I couldn't resist, and it tasted so good. When dessert came out (peanut butter pie with ice cream and hot fudge) Al forgave me for a bite.

By this time, our vacation was just about over. A quick stop for some door photos (for the anthology), and a trip to the American Girl Store were the end of the day. We had to get on a 5:02 train to the air port. Our travels home were uneventful, and although we were sad to leave NYC, we were happy to get home. Al has been exhausted, and who can blame him? Afterall, he took over the city.

  1. I am impressed Natalie. You made sure Al took his trip to NYC seriously! I am not going to sign up for him now, he'll be disappointed with my life after his thrilling vaca in the big apple.
Enjoy the last of your summer - only 2 weeks left (gulp!)
